Academic support system
The school has an academic support system that encompasses a broad array of educational strategies, including Tutoring sessions, Supplemental courses, a Teacher Advisor, a studio room, and an after-school program as well. Based on the experience of being a trainer for 1 month, every Thursday, there will be an After-School Program (English Club) for senior students’ level 4-6 students (Non-grade Club) for 1 hour, which is an activity to promote learning in English subjects such as Spelling Be, learning vocabularies in 3 languages (English-Bahasa-Thai), etc.
I think that the school not only focuses on developing academic skills for students but also provides excellent support and care for students by organizing counseling activities and teaching students, as well as taking into account academic support for individual students, specific student groups (such as students who lack aptitude in English) Academic support may be provided to individual students, specific student populations (such as non-English speakers or disabled students) from assessing student satisfaction. As a result, they are active, enthusiastic in participating in activities, and most importantly, happy to learn. No stress, students told me that they’re very impressed that I have been a part of and fulfilling this English Club to be happier.
Teaching system
From my observation, SMA Labschool, Palu, Sulawesi, Indonesia has teaching systems that varies according to the course and level. Most of the teachers will determine their teaching methods to suit the learner group. Which can summarize the importance as follows. Discussing teaching style, which style promotes learning through interaction.
In this style, practiced by Socrates, the teacher encourages critical thinking and lively discussion by asking students to respond to challenging questions. The teacher is a facilitator guiding the discussion to a logical conclusion. Students learn to have opinions and to back them up with facts and data. and Delegating teaching that promotes learning through empowerment. With this style, the teacher assigns tasks that students work on independently, either individually or in groups. In summary, the teachers know how to adapt various teaching styles appropriately way.
Other
They had been taking good care of me, including my friends who joined in SEA Teacher Program, they also treated me like I was one of their family members. They give good greetings from walking into the fence of the school, recommending the building plan, and the place in a friendly way, and send us every evening. When I performed teaching duties, the kindness of people, teachers, and all students, made most of my time meaningful and feel like becoming part of the people at the Lab School completely.
Providing the services of the educational institution. For me, it made me feel so impressed as a foreign teacher I had a lot of pressure and anxiety including unfamiliarity with the place of residence When I had to leave my hometown to teach here. Palu, Indonesia. It made me got a lot pressure for myself. But on my first day joining as part
of SMA Labschool, I could get rid of all the worries I had felt before. The only thing that makes me get rid of my anxiety is “people”. In Palu.💗✨🇮🇩🍀

Before my friends and I ended up participating in this project, we were fed by all the teachers with warmth. They facilitated both travel and local Pali meals for me and 3 of my colleagues and they started the conversation and built friendships between me throughout the party, even though some teachers were not good at communicating in English. Another impression is the teachers gave us a souvenir, batik cloth. That gave me the idea to thank all the teachers, so I consulted with my buddy to say thank you in Bahasa for all teachers to understand. Although there was not much practice time, I was able to convey my gratitude and sing Thai songs to pass my feelings through the melody to express that I am glad to be part of SMA Labschool.

2.1 Teaching methods of the teacher that you observed.

From my observation in his English classes. He is the only English teacher in SMA Labschool. His name is Arif Pratama D. Lumanauw, who teach for high school for (grade 10-12) consists of Students Who Study in Science-Math Program 3 Classes and Students Who Study in Social Program 1 Class. I found that he formatted the classroom which is hybrid (also known as blended) style strives to strike a balance between teacher and focusing on student-centered approaches.

There are three teaching methods of the teacher that I observed. Mr. Arif’ teaching methods combined with Learner-centered method, Content-focused method,
and Interactive/participative methods. So, they can develop a deeper understanding of the material and build their problem-solving skills. Additionally, this approach can be particularly effective for accommodating different learning styles and needs, as it provides opportunities for students to explore the material in a way that works
best for them.
In my point of view, I could see most of students feel as though instructor value their input. From here, students can become more enthusiastic participator in the learning process, which makes for a more productive learning environment. Finally, I’d like to say is “He had great potentiality to achieve goals of his expectation
to teach English for students.”
2.2 Their learning materials and innovation
Based on my observation and training in English classes, The teacher used learning materials and inventions that aimed to improve the English communication skills of the students. For example, Visual Materials, Whiteboard, Content Slide (Printed Materials) is a textbook, worksheet, and (Equipment) slide projector. Technology is used to create slides, and PPT teaching materials for teaching students. Teachers invented Authentic learning materials by recycling waste properties from the office to create flashcards and English games. Although the budget for media production is not much he will always find a way to do it fully.
I was impressed that he was being a good role model as a teacher. I was happy and grateful for all the students. Seeing his dedication, what I have learned from him is to be a talented teacher. Anyone can be, but it will be even better. If is a good teacher and has more effort, and discipline to study and develop good media well. To be a small factor, to drive learners to have more knowledge and get more opportunities for future careers.
2.3 Sources of learning and technology used by the teachers.
Learning materials and technology used by teachers in teaching Based on Indonesian English course textbooks and searching for more social media teaching activities such as the official website British Council, Cambridge, Oxford, YouTube, etc. At one time, searching for knowledge from learning sources outside the classroom is something that should be done to increase new teaching options. Effective educational concepts to keep up with the current situation, as he said “Find a different way. Often get new results” by Sir. Arif
In my personal attitude, I also agree with his approach, the source of knowledge is not limited to the classroom, being a teacher should have a vision and wide perspective, to increase new knowledge to develop their knowledge better.
2.4 Authentic assessment used by the teachers.
At first, I thought the evaluation of teaching and learning in Indonesia Will be similar to the country, but the evaluation is somewhat different the assessment of the learner of Thai education has rules and standards for measuring and evaluation using KPA (Knowledge, Practice, and Attitude), but the assessment of the learner of Indonesian education focuses on the assessment at Physical context and social context.
Sir Arif uses the assessment according to the actual condition (Authentic Assessment) using the observation process. Record and collect information from the work of students That the learner can perform in front of the class The evaluation process that he uses is to allow students to show the ability to learn from themselves in the content in the chapter, such as allowing students to practice speaking confidently to introduce themselves in the job application. Focus on evaluating learners from thinking and planning skills. Ability to solve problems and practicality in the daily life of learners.
Teaching Plan
3.1 Curriculum
How to understand the curriculum of Indonesia was very exciting and challenging. I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to be a role as an English teacher in Palu, Indonesia. Because not everyone has the opportunity to learn from authentic experiences, I always remind myself. No matter how many obstacles to learning, I will recognize my determination and will never give up the desire to pursue knowledge.
Language differences are the driving force for me to try more to understand authentic reading. That means I only need 1 week to ask my Indonesian friends. To translate and inquire thoroughly About the English teaching course here, Fortunately, I got lots of advice to study the course in detail.
In conclusion, the Indonesian course is an independent course. Each school or university can be adjusted according to the teaching method of the teacher. This course provides teaching management by focusing on teachers. Because it is a course with specific courses that can be learned outside the classroom in a variety of classrooms Thai education courses a course that focus on the learner center and use the basic core course throughout every school.
3.2 Teaching plan related to my major
Writing a lesson plan is one thing that I consider. It is a challenge and a lot of pressure. Because it is like a navigation map to be able to carry out teaching activities smoothly Until I achieve the teaching objectives that I expect the obstacle in writing my lesson plan the difficulty of writing my lesson plan Is the selection of interesting topics because my mentor allowed me to study to find learning resources independently. I am not used to teaching here. Because the teaching time is quite a long period, Therefore, I spend time editing the lesson plan every day to build my class and provide my lesson to the students According to my aims.
Teaching Practice
4.1 Procedures of teaching
- preparation before teaching procedure
I started to prepared my lesson by write out my expectations and created my materials for teaching reperched how to run my classroom smoothly and effectively. - Teaching procedure
There are 3 steps to provide my classroom effectively as following: - Step 1 Pre- Teaching
Before starting every class, I always greeted students iI always greeted students in the classroom to create a more relaxing atmosphere. After that, I use the questioning technique with attached pictures to draw their attention to the lesson. The feedback from the students is that the students cooperate very well. There is a variety of answers to the teacher. And is an indirect reinforcement that encourages classmates to be more active in learning. - Step 2 While- teaching
Starting into the lesson, I inform the topic (Content) to teach students. And how long will be divided for teaching in each sub-topic to set the time limit. I focused on explaining the content (Content) and always giving examples with details. During the teaching, I will observe the students in the class. Whether they follow the content or not, the specified lesson plan period is a good thing to do. But creating a quality class and students are happy in learning Is also an important thing as well. - Step 3 Wrap-up teaching
Before the end of the lesson, I will summarize the importance of the lessons I taught for students. I usually checked the students’ task and gave them feedback. I believed that encouragement is an essential ingredient of personal and educational growth.
- Evaluation and Assessment
My measurement and evaluation took into account the following principles: The participation of learners and assertiveness in speaking English and being able to communicate in English in the classroom. I will not focus too much on grammar. The essence is that learners can learn the content and apply it in their daily lives.
4.2 Time management and organizing activities.
I had found that setting a time limit for each task and each lesson prevented me from getting distracted or procrastinating. The time in my teaching period will be 1 period. Each period consists of 2 meetings, each meeting has 40 minutes, a total of 80 minutes. I will conduct the teaching according to my lesson plan systematically. But based on the situation that can happen unexpected things.
But if I still have time, I will spend the rest of the time exchanging cultural knowledge between Thailand and Indonesia with students in the classroom. The time I have shared with them. I don’t know how fast the time passes. I am very impressed to be an English teacher for them. Even if it is not very long, but an experience I will remember for a lifetime.
In my classroom style of activities, I always focus on organizing activities that make children express themselves as much as possible in English. For example, I will assign a task as a short drama project, using the knowledge that I have taught in applied classes to write plays to perform role-playing, as well as presenting tourist attractions in the city of Palu. The feedback is that students have a very good responsibility. They can bring the knowledge they have learned to play in a fun way. As a teacher, I am grateful for the commitment of all students who study hard in my subjects. They are the driving force that makes me want to develop myself to be a good teacher in the future.
4.3 Classroom management
I usually Considered to give instructions to students by using simple & clear words.
So that they cloud follow my class and learn more effectively. As a teacher I provided opportunities for students to share their opinions and decide how they learn best. This builds self-confidence, which supports a more positive learning environment.
I always considered when I had to be flexible with my expectations. Adjusting my expectations to each situation that arises gives students the opportunity to see that they can encounter challenging situations and provide them and myself with flexibility if needed.
4.4 Problem-solving while teaching and staying in the designated school.
In my perspective, I think that in the process of teaching in class, there are always expected situations. Therefore, I always remind myself that you have to be conscious and focused. Due to the diversity of learners, for example, in each program Some rooms with good communication skills Will be able to receive commands follow well and respond quite quickly but when I have the opportunity to teach students in every program.
The problem is that most students still communicate in Bahasa because they do not understand English. The solution to my problem is that in every class I will have a notebook that keeps writing down Giving instructions in Bahasa language to make students understand more. The feedback is that all students are excited that foreign teachers can communicate in Bahasa and open their hearts to learning English more. In addition, the children also asked me to teach them how to speak Thai. I feel and feel that they are open and are learning with me as well.
Another problem in the class that cannot be mentioned is that within SMA Labschool there is a frequent power outage situation. In a week, I can’t teach English in the classroom of grade 10 Mia 2 because the slide projector can’t work. The weather in the room is so hot that the child is not focused, but I think that, however, teaching will still have to continue. My solution is to organize English teaching outside the classroom at the library. Sometimes being a teacher teaches me to deal with obstacles that can happen at any time. Although the slide teaching materials that I have prepared are not available, I can teach the content by writing well. With the cooperation of all the lovely children, and finally, I can finally teach on time and not lose today’s class for nothing.
In my sense, at that time, being a teacher came with a great workload. Sometimes there is stress and discouragement. I didn’t have enough rest is. But one thing that makes me want to go to school every day. Teach in front of the class for hours a day, but still feel alive. I want to thank all the students there. For inspiring me to be a good teacher for them. The challenge that must be solved while teaching is another experience in teaching abroad that I will never forget and will remember to be the driving force to be a good teacher in the future.
